Vision Catcher has announced the introduction of its new licence plate
recognition (LPR) system. Appian allows a high recognition rate of
more than 97% at speeds of up to 200 km/h (not that you should be
driving at that speed)!
The LPR comes with multiple reads per second over a multitude of lanes with accurate identification of vehicles and number plates in all weather conditions, 24 hours a day.

Appian can also provide car park management, estate management and journey time analysis. Applications range from access control to surveillance and anti-terrorism to traffic flow monitoring and regulation. Triggers are automatically 'in picture' configuration and the system is set up for all South African plates. In recent local tests where more than 1000 different cars are in use, the LPR system provided 100% identification on differing provincial plates at a rate of more than three vehicles per second.

I have a friend who is one of those very nervous, paranoid people that does not trust his car alone for one second. This gadget is perfect for folks like him and I expect to see this kind of system implemented in high end cars of the future. The ATRD M10 is a fingerprint scanning system for your car. If there is no match to your saved fingerprint, it won’t start-up. Basically you have to insert the key into the ignition and then place your finger on the device and wait for the LED light to turn green. Once it does, you’re good to go. This product comes with additional features to ensure it is fit for many situations, it comes with the ability to save up to ten finger prints if you have others that drive your car. Additionally, it features a valet mode, and this means that if you are going out somewhere that offers valet, you have the option to turn the finger scanner off so they can drive your car.
