Faster fee collection, improved
checking – Siemens installs video systems on Mount
Großglockner road network

/noticias.info/ Erlangen, May 4,
2005
The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group
(I&S) is supplying and installing 25 new video
systems for the road network of Großglockner
Hochalpenstraßen AG (GROHAG) in the Austrian Alps. The
video systems will be used to accelerate fee collection
at the fee stations and also for checking purposes. The
project on the Mount Großglockner roads and on the
Gerlos Pass is scheduled for completion in June 2005.
The Nockalm roadway will follow by June 2006.
Großglockner Hochalpenstraßen AG operates around 93
kilometers of roads in and around the “Hohe Tauern”
- the Austrian national park which is just under 1800
square kilometers in size - at the borders between the
provinces of Tyrol, Carynthia and Salzburg. The roads
include several which cross the Alps, namely Großglockner
Hochalpenstraße, opened in 1935, Gerlos-Alpenstraße
and Nockalmstraße.
For the fee stations at Heiligenblut, Ferleiten and
Gerlospass, Siemens is supplying video systems to
accelerate and support fee collection. In future, a
total of eight video fee collection lanes will be
available to drivers with day tickets and tickets for
longer periods of time. The holders of tickets tied to
particular car license numbers will be identified by a
video camera with the help of an automatic license-plate
recognition system which is integrated in the video
system.
For checking purposes, all 17 fee collection lanes will
be equipped with an enforcement system, which stores a
picture of each vehicle that has paid the fee on an
image server of GROHAG for later checking. |
