Pay parking tickets online

Lincoln motorists now have the opportunity to pay their parking tickets online.

     Municipal Management Associates, Inc. has launched its new Web site www.PayMyParkingTickets.com. This Web site is operated for the convenience of its municipal city, town, and state college and university clients for which the company performs data processing and collection services of parking tickets. Unlike most municipal payment Web sites that simply collect information from the motorist or taxpayer and pass it on to the appropriate processing staff, PayMyParkingTickets.com raises online payment processing to a whole new level.

     Lincoln is one of 35 cities and towns that provide this service to its motorists.

     Motorists are simply asked to enter their vehicle plate registration. The system then searches a growing database of 35 cities, towns and state universities to identify all parking tickets that are unpaid. By this summer this list will grow to more than 60 participating clients. Within a couple of seconds the motorist is presented with a detailed list of all their parking tickets from these participating municipalities and given the choice to pay by debit card, personal check, or credit cards (Visa and MasterCard). After the motorist chooses to continue the payment process they are brought to a secure Web site where VeriSign, a national online payment processing company, collects the check, debit or credit card information and completes the approval process. The approval of funds is performed online in a secure Web site where all data is encrypted to prevent against unauthorized use.

     After the transaction is complete the motorist has the option of immediately printing a detailed receipt or sending the receipt to their e-mail address for electronic filing. Motorists are also given the choice to participate in Municipal Management Associates' TicketAlert program. The company will automatically send an e-mail to those enrolled in TicketAlert, presenting a visual image of all automated parking tickets and the details of handwritten tickets. It also reminds the motorist that he or she has three days to pay the ticket or additional late fees will be added to the outstanding balance. This service is provided to motorists free of change in hopes of saving them the cost of additional late fees and to promote online payments.

     In Massachusetts unpaid parking tickets can result in a motorist's driver's license and vehicle registration being marked for non-renewal. When a motorist pays for parking tickets that are "marked" by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Municipal Management Associates automatically sets these tickets up to be cleared electronically. This process is done three times daily at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The convenience of the electronic Registry clears eliminates the need for the motorist to visit the municipality and obtain a certified receipt, which requires that payment be made in cash.
