Viisage works with U.K. firm on ID matching system

Billerica-based identification technology company Viisage has entered into a partnership with Cross Match Technologies to integrate the Viisage PROOF product with Cross Match’s fingerprint offerings. The goal is to provide governments and businesses with a stronger process of vetting a claimed identity before granting a secure credential or privileges, such as access to buildings and secure networks.

According to the companies, the technology combination enables the capturing of photographs and fingerprint biometrics using Cross Match’s 10-print FBI certified fingerprint biometric capture device, I-9 breeder documents, and on- and off-line demographic data. An identity is first analyzed using the Viisage PROOF analytics engine, which is designed to authenticate all breeder documents and validate identity data. The data, including the fingerprint images, can then be submitted for FBI background checks and/or stored on smartcards for use in accessing privileges, such as building entry or computer network logon.

Founded in 1996, Cross Match Technologies is a provider of forensic-quality fingerprint and palm print capture devices.

Viisage and U.K.-based Cross Match have recently entered into a non-exclusive agreement regarding the new combined system and potentially others. In the future the companies plan to combine Viisage face recognition and Cross Match one-to-many fingerprint matching capabilities.

At press time, Viisage stock was trading for $5.29 per share, up 5 cents from its close yesterday.
